Alternative Health: Antioxidants
Antioxidants are said to help in the fight against aging. They do this by protecting skin cells against undesirable chemical interactions with oxygen. Some of the most popular substances that contain antioxidant properties are Vitamins A, C, and E. These agents can typically be found in whole foods such as fruits and vegetables, and occasionally, nutritional supplements.
Clarifying the Benefits of Antioxidants
Antioxidants are organic substances that help to prevent strokes, cancers, and heart disease. These substances are constantly being studied in order to prove their effectiveness in preventing these very serious ailments. Antioxidants stop free radicals in the body from the oxidation process, which is sometimes carcinogenic. These free radicals are produced by many different processes of cells. They are also the by-products of the bodys exposure to radiation and tobacco smoke.
This is why stopping these free radicals are so important. Without antioxidants, the body will continue to have the damaging oxidation process that can cause grave harm. If left for too long, the process can have irreversible effects and contribute to serious diseases.
However, there is still debate among researchers regarding whether or not taking an antioxidant supplement is truly beneficial to the body. Despite the dissension, researchers do agree that nutritional supplements can not take the place of a healthy lifestyle. Living a healthy lifestyle may include taking antioxidants, however; it should not replace fruits and vegetables in their entirety.
